👥 Random Team Generator
Split a list of names into fair random teams. Perfect for sports, classes, quizzes and games.
About this generator
Choosing teams is awkward when you do it by hand, and it's rarely fair. This random team generator takes a list of names, shuffles them with a secure random method, and deals them out into the number of teams you choose. Everyone ends up on a team without any arguments over who picks first.
Type or paste names, one per line, choose how many teams you need, and press the button. If the number of players doesn't divide evenly, some teams will have one more player than others. Press the button again to reshuffle until everyone's happy.
It works for school sports, pub quizzes, office events, board-game nights, escape-room groups, tournaments and project groups. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere, so it's safe to use with names of real people.
FAQ
Is it fair?
Yes. It uses an unbiased random shuffle, so every possible arrangement is equally likely.
What if the teams can't be equal?
Some teams will have one extra player. For example, 7 players in 2 teams makes teams of 4 and 3.
Are the names stored?
No. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
Can I reshuffle?
Yes. Press Make teams again for a new random split.
