How the generators work

Every generator runs entirely in your web browser. When you press a button, your device picks a result using the browser's built-in secure random number generator, the same kind of randomness used for cryptography. We also correct for the small statistical bias that simple random methods can introduce, so each option really does have an equal chance of coming up.

Because everything happens on your device, the names, lists and options you type in are not sent to us. The password generator, the Secret Santa draw and the team splitter never transmit what you enter.

Where the content comes from

The lists behind the generators are written and curated for this site. Name lists are hand-picked mixes of classic, modern and unusual choices. For the mix-and-match generators, such as fantasy names, usernames and band names, we maintain lists of word parts that are combined at random, which produces thousands of possible results.

Some generators describe traditions that don't have one official version. Drinking-card games like Four Kings (also known as Kings Cup) are played with different house rules in every group, so we collected the rules that are widely published and show many options for each card. The "fun facts" are well-known facts chosen for interest, not for formal citation. If you need accuracy for an essay, article or anything important, please check a reliable source.

Responsible use

Some of the party games on this site involve optional drinking. They are intended only for adults of legal drinking age. Nobody should ever feel pressured to drink, and every game works just as well with water, soda or juice. Please drink responsibly, never drive after drinking and look out for each other. If you are not of legal drinking age, please don't use the drinking-game pages.

The password generator creates strong random passwords, but we can't be responsible for how you store or use them. We recommend a reputable password manager and a unique password for every account.

How the site is funded

Randomly is free to use. To cover hosting and the time it takes to build and update it, the site shows advertising, which may be provided by Google AdSense. Ads never change the results a generator gives you. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising works and how to control it.

Suggestions and corrections
